ENTRANCE AGE

The Rapides Parish School Board shall require children entering kindergarten at the beginning of the school session for the first time to be at least five (5) years of age on or before September 30 of the calendar year in which the school year begins.  Kindergarten students entering after the school session has started must meet School Board entrance requirements.  For students entering first grade for the first time at the beginning of the school session, they shall be six (6) years on or before September 30 of the calendar year in which the school year begins.

A child younger than the above may be permitted to enter school provided the child has been evaluated and identified as gifted in accordance with the regulations of the Louisiana Department of Education for such evaluation.  A child admitted to kindergarten shall be eligible to enter first grade upon successful completion of kindergarten, provided all other applicable entrance requirements have been fulfilled.

Students transferring from outside of Rapides Parish from a state accredited or military accredited K-Plus program shall be accepted at the first grade level.  Kindergarten students shall have been enrolled in a K-Plus program in another parish or state for at least six (6) weeks or nine (9) weeks to be accepted into kindergarten.
