HOME LEARNING

 

 

The Rapides Parish School Board believes that home learning should be used to reinforce learning only, and should be of such nature that the students can be expected to accomplish it independently, or with little help from parents or siblings.

 

Rapides Parish adheres to the policy of assigning home learning with the understanding that students know what is assigned, that they have been taught how to do the assigned tasks, and that reasonable time frames are observed.  Home assignments accomplish the following:

 

  1. supplement school work

  2. help children develop good study habits

  3. help in organizing what has been learned in school

  4. stimulate student growth 

 

Home assignments shall:

 

  1. have a specific purpose and be highly correlated with class work.

  2. be based on individual needs of the student.

  3. be reasonable yet challenging.

  4. be conducive to independent study and responsibility.

 

Keeping in mind that the student spends seven (7) hours per day in school and approximately one (1) additional hour traveling to and from school, a reasonable time frame shall be established for home assignments.  The following time frames shall be the maximum spent on home assignments.

 

 

K-3

45 minutes maximum
 

4-6

60 minutes maximum
 

7-8

90 minutes maximum
 

9-12

120 minutes maximum

 

Home learning shall be evaluated according to the Rapides Parish Pupil Progression Plan.
