PRINCIPALS’ WORK SCHEDULE

 

 

Effective June 1, 2008 all newly-hired principals shall be hired as twelve (12) month employees employed at the same salary schedule previously approved for eleven month principals.  Principals hired after June 1, 2008 shall no longer accumulate release days, but shall accrue earned vacation in accordance with policy GBRK, Annual Leave.  Principals hired prior to this date have the option of converting to twelve (12) month employment and earning accrued vacation in accordance with the Rapides Parish School Board Policy GBRK, Annual Leave or remaining under the Eleven Month Principals Schedule shown below.  Principals electing to convert shall receive annual leave credit for the remaining release days at the date of his/her conversion to twelve (12) month employment, but shall be not be eligible to earn further release days from the date of conversion.  Principals converting to twelve (12) month employment shall be credited with twelve month (12) experience for the period of his/her service as a principal in calculating eligibility for length of annual leave in accordance with policy GBRK, Annual Leave.

 

ELEVEN MONTH  PRINCIPALS

 

Principals employed as principals prior to June 1, 2008, who do not elect to convert to twelve month (12) employment, shall not be eligible to accrue annual leave, and shall remain governed by the provisions in effect prior to this policy change.  They shall report to work on August 1st and work through June 30th each school year, following the parish-adopted school calendar.

 

Eleven month principals shall be granted ten (10) release days during the school year to be approved in advance by the Superintendent.  Release days may be used with the following exception:

 

  1. None during the first twenty (20) days of their work schedule

  2. None during the last ten (10) student days and ensuing ten (10) days of the school year

  3. None during high stakes testing week

 

Principals shall not be permitted more than three (3) consecutive paid release days during the school term unless the Superintendent grants a special dispensation.  Release days are non-accruable.

 

PROVISIONS APPLICABLE TO ALL PRINCIPALS

 

All principals shall be required to publicly post a summer work schedule including dates and times working, as well as phone numbers where they or their designee can be contacted in case of an emergency.

 

Principal or designee shall ensure that the building and custodians are periodically checked during the month of July each year.
