SCHOOL PRINCIPALS/BUILDING ADMINISTRATORS

The principal shall be responsible for the organization, administration, and the supervision of his/her school, and in turn he/she shall be responsible to the Superintendent.  The Superintendent shall delegate to the principal all decisions regarding the hiring and placement of any teacher or other personnel at the school in which the principal is employed, subject to the approval of the Superintendent.

The Rapides Parish School Board considers supervision one of the most important duties of the principal.  The principal shall be responsible for evaluating the efficiency of his or her personnel and making recommendations to the Superintendent for tenure, transfers, promotions, or dismissals.

The principal is the educational leader of the school.  He/she should be alert to opportunities to improve the instructional program, to foster the professional growth among his/her teachers, to work for the best interest of his/her students and faculty, and to maintain good relations with the school's community.

ABSENCE OF PRINCIPAL

If a school has two (2) or more assistant principals, the principal shall notify the Superintendent in writing prior to the beginning of the school year as to which assistant will serve as acting principal when the principal is absent.  If the principal fails to designate an acting principal, then the Superintendent or the Superintendent's designee shall make the selection, which shall be final.
