SCHOOL DISTRICT ORGANIZATION

The schools within Rapides Parish shall be organized into an arrangement that shall provide all children in the parish, regardless of race, color, national origin, ethnicity, sex, and/or mental or physical disability, an opportunity to develop their educational potential to the maximum extent possible.  The Board shall require the educational organization of the schools to remain flexible so that new patterns of organization may be implemented as may become necessary, to suit community needs and resources.

The Board is authorized to reorganize the schools and to determine and fix the number of grades to be taught at each school in accordance with the dictates of the public, and in the best interests of the students of Rapides Parish.

Peabody Magnet High School shall be established as a school with a student attendance zone serving grades 9-12 and open for enrollment, pursuant to authorized student transfer options including, but not limited to, magnet transfers, to students from throughout the Rapides Parish School System.  Peabody Magnet High School shall provide unique and attractive magnet curricula offering career, extended and advanced programs that shall not be offered at any other school.

Phoenix Academic Magnet Elementary School shall be established as a school serving grades kindergarten through five and open for enrollment to students from throughout the Rapides Parish School System.  Phoenix Academic Magnet Elementary School shall provide unique and attractive magnet curricula and programs that shall not be offered at any other school.

The Board is authorized to establish other magnet programs at designated schools at such grade levels as it may deem appropriate.  These magnet program schools shall serve a student attendance zone and shall be open for enrollment, pursuant to authorized student transfer policies including, but not limited to, magnet transfers, of students from throughout the Rapides Parish School System.  Magnet program schools shall provide unique and attractive magnet curricula and programs which are not offered at any other school.
