Resolution Adopted

RESOLUTION OF RAPIDES PARISH SCHOOL BOARD

WHEREAS, the Rapides Parish School Board has examined the 2020 Official Census figures, and

WHEREAS, the Rapides Parish School Board has made a determination that it should be reapportioned so as to comply with R.S.17:71.1, et seq., and the Federal Voting Rights Act of 1965, and

WHEREAS, the Rapides Parish School Board currently consists of nine single-member districts designated “A” through “I” and the Rapides Parish School Board finds that maintaining the same number of election districts is most appropriate under the circumstances, and

WHEREAS, the members of the Rapides Parish School Board are currently elected for four-year terms, the current terms to expire December 31, 2022, and

WHEREAS, the Rapides Parish Police Jury has in accordance with law established voting precincts throughout the parish, the metes and bounds descriptions of which are utilized to form the board’s election districts, and

WHEREAS, the Rapides Parish School Board is desirous of maintaining insofar as practicable the previously adopted Police Jury election districts in order to minimize voter and candidate confusion concerning election of candidates to the said governing bodies:

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Rapides Parish School Board, in accordance with R.S. 17:71.4, that:

A. Rapides Parish School Board shall continue to consist of nine members elected from single member districts;

B. The terms of office of the members shall be four (4) years commencing with the expiration of the current members’ terms on December 31, 2022;

C. The date of the primary election for the Rapides Parish School Board as reapportioned shall be November 8, 2022 and the general election shall be December 10, 2022;

D.In the event of conflict between the metes and bounds descriptions of precincts attached hereto and the precinct descriptions maintained by the Rapides Parish Police Jury, the official Police Jury metes and bounds precinct descriptions shall prevail;

E. The nine single-member election districts are hereby described as follows (references are to the Rapides Parish voting precincts, or portions of precincts, as contained in the attached metes and bounds descriptions):

DISTRICT A: precincts N6, a portion of N12, N14-A, a portion of N14-B, N15, N16, N17, N18-A, N18-B, N19, N20, and N21

DISTRICT B: precincts N2, N4, N5, N7, N8, N9, N10, a portion of N29, N11, N13-A, N13-B, a portion of N14-B, and N1.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVEDthat the reapportionment plan specified above, having been adopted by the Rapides Parish School Board at its meeting on the date hereafter subscribed, shall be published in the official journal of the Rapides Parish School Board and become effective and shall govern the qualifying and election of school board members commencing with the July 20, 2022 primary election and the service of the board members of the Rapides Parish School Board elected to terms of office which commence January 1, 2023.
